His lessons began from his father known simply as the Grand Master Motta. Master Motta is one of the true pioneers of MMA in South Brazil who himself began studying Judo when he was just 4 years old and began his own martial arts school called Brazilian Fight in 1997 that still exists today. Additionally a strong dose of brotherly competition honed Lucas’ skills with his 4 year older brother, Ismael Mota who is a 3 stripe black belt in Jiu Jitsu. Ismael continues to instruct at the Las Vegas Carlson Gracie school today having trained extensively with Anderson Silva, Antonio “Minotauro” Nogueira, Paulo Filho and Junior Dos Santos.
