As a Marin county native, Woolf Barnato began training in Jiu Jitsu following in the footsteps of his older sister who is now a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Searching for some structure in his life, Woolf began training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu seriously at the age of 16 and was quickly recognized as a prodigy of the sport and progressed rapidly through the ranks. By 18 he was training full time and competing regularly becoming a world champion as a purple belt in 2013 under the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation and a Pan Am IBJJF blue belt gold medalist. Some of his other titles now include:
World Champion Silver medalist – 2011 Blue Belt division
Pan American Silver medalist – 2014 Brown Belt division
3x American Cup Champion – 2010, 2013, 2014
2x US Open Champion – 2010, 2013
2x SF International Open Champion – 2012, 2013
Woolf currently holds a brown belt under Ralph Gracie and Kurt Osiander.
He is someone who truly enjoys teaching and keeps his classes moving at a very fast pace while still keeping them highly technical. His teaching style emphasizes accurate technique and a clear, linear progression that builds on each previous class. Students constantly remark that their skills have improved vastly after just a few classes under Woolf’s instruction which has created a very dedicated following of this young phenom.
